Updates to this story
One of the most violent books ever written, which features a psychopathic God who encourages genocide and torture, which includes sex scenes, child murder, degradation of women and the glorification of racial and religious superiority is being made into a computer game.
But this MMO is unlikely to attract the wrath of the Bible Belt, in fact we think they are going to force kids to play it.
FIAA announced the Bible Online, a browser-based MMORTS that follows the story of the Bible from the beginning.
It is very similar to Age of Empires. The scene is set just 6000 years ago where you select an insignificant nomadic tribe to be your chosen people. You get to accept quests from some of the stars of the book such as Abraham. Gameplay is apparently turn-based.
Chapter One of The Bible Online, which is based on the Book of Genesis, will go into beta on the 6th of September. Genesis would be a great start.
If it is based on the book you have to genocide other tribes, kill their children, cattle and stomp on their soft toys. You will have to build an ark, get all the animals, and then shag your daughters.
However you could be killed for the terrible crime of using the withdrawal method.
You can play women but since they spend most of their time being raped, murdered or setting up another player to get killed by God it does not strike us as being particularly fun. The only weapon you get is a tent peg and you have to drive it threw your opponent’s eye while he is asleep.
It sounds like this game could be tough. You have to go on a rescue quest, leading 318 men to save Lot from the flesh pots of Sodom without getting turned into a pillar of salt.
We are not sure if the scenes where you have to genocide gay people feature in the game. If it is we are sure it will go down well in the Bible Belt where they have been itching to do that sort of thing for hundreds of years.
Richard Dawkins has not said that it is dangerous to let children play this game, but we suspect he would like to.
