Games console maker Sony has suddenly cut a deal with hacker George Hotz, ending what was promising to be a really nasty court battle.
Under the deal, Hotz has agreed to stop breaking into Sony's PlayStation 3 (PS3) consoles and er... that's it.
Hotz said that it was never his intention to cause any users trouble or to make piracy easier and he was happy to have the litigation behind him.
Sony went to court early this year to stop hackers who figured out how to "jailbreak" PS3 consoles.
Hotz had written and posted code that would allow PS3 owners to run Linux, but it could equally be used to allow them to run pirated software, argued Sony.
Sony claimed Hotz violated federal law by posting information online. It then went through some rather nasty legal disclosure procedures in a bid to get the case heard in San Francisco, rather than Hotz's New Jersey.
However it did mean that all his emails and the addresses of everyone who might have downloaded the program ended up in the paws of Sony.
Sony told AP that its motivation for bringing the litigation was to protect its intellectual property and consumers. It said that the settlement and the permanent injunction achieved this goal.
Sony said that it appreciated Hotz's willingness to address the legal problems involved in the case, and to work with it to bring the matter to an early resolution.
This was the same outfit which recently accused Hotz of giving them a locked hard-drive and running off to South America.

When a human is so divided [between his past and his future], not only is he mostly unaware of his present, he also lacks the realisation that The Present is the only reality whilst realising that awareness is only possible when its consciousness is present, one’s consciousness being “represented”/”residing” within one’s diaphragm. Cruelty, oka Aggression, oka The Future, is not only latent Cunning, oka Depression, oka The Past, Cruelty is suggesting that Cunning is actually running the show, Cruelty being Cunning expressed. Honest, but have another chuckle anyway. Sony - or its principle “The Japanese” [as in location and not so much its people], oka Perfection of Humanity in Reality and not the perfection of, say, the roundness of pears, humanised robotics, or the perfect way to screw a/one’s nut - should do what all its siblings-in-crime ought to do and that is return some of the loot to fund, say, several more Nuclear Minters Gone Awry. Should “Banzai” be still the secret code word, a few more “accidents” ought to prove the point which is that, What Goes Around, Comes Around.
It is benevolent to realised that you cannot squeeze Perfection from Imperfection if only because what is a principle within Relativity is usually not even a concept within Reality. Afterall, Love has no concept of damaging others. She leaves that to He who commands the oceans and obeys only the boundaries of perfect behaviour. Humans are truly egotistical/unconscionable when we are stupid whilst being sympathetic/cunning when we are dumb. The problem then is that only others are dumb and stupid, never one’s constant state of perfection. It must be so because the “Judiciary/”Judges”/”Lawyers” said do, justice being a principle within injustice whereas real justice is beyond stupidity-cum-dumbness.
