Wikileaks might have been the reason why the US had to move quickly to bump off Osama bin Laden.
One of the cables which was leaked indicated that the US may have obtained a clue three years ago that Osama bin Laden was hiding in Abbottabad.
Deep in a 2008 document released by WikiLeaks last week were notes from the interrogation of a Libyan, Abu al-Libi, who had apparently been with Bin Laden in Afghanistan.
Libi fled to Peshawar in Pakistan and was living there in 2003 when he was asked to become one of Bin Laden's messengers.
The document says that in July 2003, Libi received a letter from Bin Laden's courier, Maulawi Abd al-Khaliq Jan.
It asked him to take on the responsibility of collecting donations, organising travel and distributing funds for families in Pakistan.
Bin Laden wanted Libi to be the official messenger between him and others in Pakistan. In mid-2003, detainee moved his family to Abbottabad (Pakistan) and worked between Abbottabad and Peshawar.
Libi was captured in Pakistan in 2005 and ended up in Guantánamo The CIA says it tracked Bin Laden by tracing the network of couriers. One of them was especially trusted by the al-Qaida leader and who died with him.
According to the Guardian, if Bin Laden had seen the cable he would have twigged that the CIA was close to finding where he lived. .
Speculation is that the US, afraid that its planned raid might be pre-empted, brought forward its attack.
They got Osama, killed him then tossed him right away in the middle of the ocean, to respect some muslim law. Is that so? The man is the most wanted terrorist in the world, responsible for almost 3000 killed in a single attack, and no corpse, no photo, no video or nothing? This is odd.
If I were to doubt it, what proof they got?
I heard that US will release a photo someday. I guess as soon they finish rendering it in photoshop!
If he's truly dead, I'm glad. But it seems to me that he wasn't killed in this attack.
Bin Laden has served US interests in the 80s when he was killing Soviets, then in the 90s he brought tens of thousands of muhajeddins to the Balkans (remember, he wasnt our enemy and his forces served well in the holy war. so much that three Al Quaeda leader in S.Arabis in a row were Bosnian holy war veterans.) and then for a decade he has been the biggest promotional tool of military and intellience budgets and hasnt been seen apart from some video and tapes (man, who knew you could get dyalysis in mountains caves).
And now were told that the dog ate my homework when asked where is the proof that he's dead now (as opposed to lets say 8 years ago)?
Really?
And whose word do we take that it was him?
The country's agencies who claimed that Iraq had WMD or the ones who claimed Saddam was responsible for 911?
Yes, those are really solid sources.
Theyve proven before how much they are worth.
If you really care about Bin Laden's work then I think you should all do yourself a favour and track back his deeds throughout the past 4 decades.
Bin Laden is not about just 911.
We created him in a way and he was very useful.
Thats the great thing about memory, you can just selectively choose to use parts of it.
Bin Laden served us well and whether its blowback or not, the reality is that we collaborated with him when killing people was useful (dont play innocent as if we dont do it all the time. The CIA called the Kosovo albanians terror groups the LARGEST and best armed, thats us too, terrorist army in theworld and the following year we run a massive air campaign. Now, its a bigger hellhole where the local chieftain has been arrested for HUMAN ORGAN trafficking. Charming.).
OUR governments role has always been glossed over in his post 911 career.
All those that died because of him before Sept 2001 will not be remembered.
Wed rather forget that.
