Hackers were unable to gain access to anything secret at the defence contractor Lockheed Martin, despite launching a "significant and tenacious" cyber attack.
Lockheed Martin, the Department of Homeland Security and the Pentagon have officially confirmed that the contractor's information systems had come under attack.
Defense Department spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel April Cunningham, said the impact on the Pentagon was minimal, and it didn't expect any adverse effects.
However, the attack should still scare the willies off of the glorious defence establishment. It represents a concerted attempt to breach the contractor's systems.
Chris Ortman, Homeland Security spokesman, told the Huffington Post that his lot and the Pentagon were working with the company to determine the breadth of the attack and "provide recommendations to mitigate further risk."
Lockheed Martin officially said that the May 21 attack was detected "almost immediately", and it took countermeasures.
It insists that its systems remain secure and no customer, software or employee data was nicked.
Some parts of the company network are still down with security working to restore employee access.
As you might expect, neither Lockheed Martin nor the federal agencies revealed specifics of the attack.

proof, and reading between the lines of all the AP and Reuters

you have 100 percent hard proof and that;'s the best way to

right. i am 101 percent sure;....my own GMAIL account here was hacked
by China last summer, the IP address was on my Gmail files...so i know
they came from China.....!!! they even erased all my work files,, 3 years work and changed my password...and added a vacation
note to all my email address friends....the hack came from CHINA, i
have proof on my screen. Lockheed was CHINA!

Several news outlets headquartered in what used to be called "the free
world" -- London, New York, Paris --
have recently been reporting news stories about some mysteriious group
that hacked into Lockheed's computers
in the U.S., without naming that culprit since Lockheed's lawyers
don't have the smoking gun yet. But the only
global player who want to hack into Lockheed's information files is
China. Why can't the Western media report
truth about this case, instead of tip-toeing around the Tiananmen
tulips? China did it, as everyone knows, and of course
China will deny it until it's dying breath. The West has already had
the experience of dealing with the lies
of Nazi Germany and the old USSR, but still remains afraid of telling
the truth about big, bad China. Why? It doesn't
compute. China hacked into Lockheed, with official knowledge and
