Twitter has made friends with the Google robot by releasing its own application for Android 2.1 smartphones. This evens the score with the iPhone and Blackberry, which already have official Twitter applications.
The revelation came on the official Twitter blog, where it wrote: “Twitter for Android is a fantastic application to use, and sharing any link or photo is super simple too – just look for the share button in your favorite application and choose Twitter.”
In fact, it's so easy to use you can tweet from many other applications, including Google Maps. You'll be spamming your Twitter page with your current location in no time.
Fitting in with the Google ethos, and as with the entire Android platform, the Twitter application will be open source, allowing current and future developers to have a go at improving the service. Such as adding support for multiple accounts, one of its only missing features.
If that was not enough, however, Twitter has promised more for the Android OS in the future. The little green robot will be very pleased.
It can be downloaded free from the Android Market.
