The delay to the handset comes after hopes were raised when Vodafone listed the handset on its website as “coming soon”. Google had previously said that it would be in the UK for “the Spring” and many took this to mean mid-March.
However Google has now confirmed reports that mid-April is a more 'realistic' Nexus One shipping date to the UK.
Moving the UK release date means the Nexus One will be competing with the HTC Desire, which will also be available on Vodafone from mid-April. The Desire is almost identical to the Nexus One and there are fears that this will confuse buyers.
Would-be Nexus One owners in the UK can buy a SIM-free device now, on Google’s Webstore and have it shipped to the UK, incurring high import and delivery charges.
Vodafone customers can apply for updates on the Nexus One through its dedicated Nexus One website.
