It will take Microsoft three years to beat the Apple iOS operating system, according to the visions of analysts at IHS.
While most think that Apple will never recover from being over-taken by Android system, others were less than convinced that Microsoft will ever be able to overtake Cupertino to be ranked as the number two operating system.
However, Wayne Lam, the firm's senior analyst for wireless communications, told eWeek that Nokia's efforts to drive the development of the Windows Phone forward are worth paying attention to.
Lam claimed that the Lumia 900 and its successors will help Microsoft to reclaim its No. 2 ranking in smartphone operating system market share by 2015.
IHS estimates Windows Phone's market share is at two percent of all smartphones shipped in 2011, but Lam believes that will rise to 16.7 percent within three years. This will place Microsoft's smartphone platform slightly ahead of the firm's projections for Apple's iOS, but behind those for Android.
The reason will be the fact that Nokia is pushing the OS and it will do well. Lam thought that its share would level off as more manufacturers get a little more aggressive.
Lam praises the Lumia 900's features and Nokia's brazen decision to elbow its way into the US smartphone market. He does not say how Microsoft and the Finnish former rubber boot make will topple its competition.
The report does mention that Nokia appeared to be hitting Microsoft's business/enterprise sales channels to appeal to corporate customers in the region. This will give Nokia a foot in the door of the enterprise sector.
This area has been targeted by RIM in the past, but that audience is starting to slide. However, to make a difference, Microsoft still has to take on the might of Apple's marketing and steal a big slice of the consumer market.
Well that was a pathetic attempt to undermine the obvious clear difference in Windows Phone and the old outdated Windows Mobile, by using the old 'Windows Mobile' logo.
Windows Phone, when actually used by an individual (rather than solely listening to those that couldn't be bothered experiencing WP for themselves), will find it fun and a pleasure to use the elegant and buttery smooth Operating System.
Those that have actively used Windows Phone know that given real exposure to consumers could have the potential to be in the top 2 of the Mobile market.
I was hesitant when I heard MS released the new breed of OS from its older predecessor. So I bought one to try. WOW! Within a few hours of using I couldn't consider another device. I've had mine for 1yr (Samsung Focus). I have had NO frozen screens, no need to reboot, no dropped calls, no 'broken apps' (and the apps just keep getting better - (quality vs quanitity).
Seriously, WindowsPhone definitely has the potential to be in the top 2.
