The US Republican Party is organising a witch hunt against Wikileaks and its founder, Julian Assange in a desperate bid to get a high profile Democratic scalp.
The cunning plan is to investigate Wikileaks and get it labelled a terrorist organisation so that Assange can be legally taken out by the US military.
But there are some doubts if the inquiry is anything more than a political move against the Attorney-General, Eric Holder.
Holder is seen by the Republicans as a high-profile target that they can bring down for being too slow and too weak in reacting to the leaks.
Darrell Issa, who will take over as chairman of the House of Representatives oversight committee is calling for Mr Holder's resignation.
Issa said that if Assange cannot be dealt with as a terrorist then he has to be able to deal with him as a criminal. "Otherwise the world is laughing at this paper tiger we've become.''
By paper tiger, Issa means being a country where the rule of law is obeyed rather than knee jerk reactions to political embarrassment. However a Democratic scalp is much more important than minor things like the constitution.
Issa's committee is supposed to deal with fraud and waste, so we are not sure how he can justify making an investigation into Wikileaks as it is neither fraud nor waste.
Issa claims his committee would investigate WikiLeaks ''so the diplomats can do their job with confidence and people can talk to our government with confidence''.
