The Israeli military has said that by monitoring Facebook it managed to catch out 1,000 women who have lied about their religion to avoid serving in the army.
Religiously observant Jewish women can be exempt from the mandatory military service, if they can show officials that they strictly follow Judaism and its rules.
But their Facebook profiles let them down.
Two years ago the army got wise to bogus religious claims so it hired investigators to research those who had dodged service. One method was to check Facebook profiles to see what they were getting up to. Many weren't as religious as they claimed.
One woman, who said she was a deeply religious Jew, posted a photo of herself on Facebook holding a menu from a non-kosher restaurant, while another updated her profile on the Sabbath.
Unsurprisingly they were both hauled off for duty.
