A group of P2P pirates want to get official recognition for filesharing as an official religion.
They have dubbed their "belief" the Missionary Kopimistsamfundet, or Missionary Church of Kopimism, and the central philosophy is that CTRL+C and CTRL+V are sacred symbols.
While the Muslims, Jews and Christians bang on about not stealing as one of their favourite commandments, next to the one about coveting your neighbour's arse, the Church claims that sharing is everything.
The church has been dreamed up by a 19-year-old philosophy student, Isaac Gerson, who believes that copying and the sharing of information is the most beautiful thing in the world.
To copy and share is a token of appreciation, and a sign that people think you have done something good.
In 2010 the church applied to the authorities to be accepted as an official religion only to be denied on the grounds that its meetings did not constitute 'worship'. Now the Church is finding out what is required in order to gain official acceptance.
They say that it is normal for various groups around the world to have been persecuted by oppressors. They have since taken refuge in religion with a desire for a peaceful coexistence. "Without threats and harassment," the church explains.
Communication is sacred. Communication needs to be respected. It is a direct sin to monitor and eavesdrop on people. Absolute secrecy is holy in the Church of Kopimism, the outfit says. Although if it is secret then why are they making statements about it?
The commandments of the church are that reproduction of information and the flow of information is ethically right.
To remix information is a sacred kind of copying and a sign of respect to the originator, they say.
Obviously DRM and other methods of protecting or hiding code is the creation of an evil force. "To appropriate software (to keep source code hidden from others), is comparable to slavery, and should be banned."
The church use the 'Kopimi' logo which is a pyramid with the letter K inside as their official symbol, and hold CTRL+C and CTRL+V as sacred.
If you want to join all you have to do is agree that everything should be copied and information should be free.
Then you have to magically load the church's website so that the 'kopimi' logo refreshes (or indeed draw it, or copy it in any way) and you're in. We accidently became members by opening the site so we hope there is not any punishment on those who fall from the religion.
For example, Democracy is about freedom but for what. Definitely not to be free to be faceting, twitting, gossipping, voyeuring, controlling, abandoned, frivolous, exchanging, flogging, saviouring and worshipping, and all the monkey tricks the stupid and the dumb, excused as being ignorant, enact in the name of freedom. Imagine, to be free to inhale smoke, talking “cock”, flying kites, consuming poison, exchanging currencies excused as facilitating barter, selling others’ natural resources for peanuts, and so forth, and all because some nut-cum-screw felt the stirring up there before retiring its precipitation down there.
All humans are gifted a real religion and that is the innate taboos, oka Morality, that we all have. Religion is not some aspect outside/without for worshipping because the only duty of worship is to realised saviourship. Being lacking immunity to nonsense whereas true religion is about immunity per se. If this is true, a change will only be real when one has changed with all declared changes lacking virtue within oneself being posturing and machinations of sorts. This is why we are either stupid or dumb when we refused to change when the true choice is presented. To cap it all, even great explosive experts assume that by, say, cuttin down on whatever emissions, we are going to save this or that or at least delay the inevitable. We won’t, not when the partial human/animal you are addressing to lacks the realisation as to why he exists whilst not forgetting that we are gifted thoughts in order that we may then realised that it is one’s thoughts that are the culprits. To finally nail the devil through its details, both being one and the same. We can/will not even change to address a simple habit permanently, like, say, not leaving the TV on for nothing, let alone the real big ones. And this is just the good guys, let alone the baddies. And this is the absolute truth. Being addicted and calling it a freedom.
I would appreciate it if the members of his new faith not try to oppress the members of mine by fighting back or calling the police while we practice ours.
