The father of the world wide web, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, has told ISPs that their cunning plan to for a "two-speed" internet goes against the principles that have let the net grow so rapidly in the past 20 years.
Sir Tim said that best practices should also include the neutrality of the net.
According to the Guardian, Berners-Lee was at a round table meeting in Westminster convened by the communications minister Ed Vaizey
At the meeting Facebook, Skype, the BBC and Yahoo, and Sir Tim were on one side and ISPs were on the other.
Jim Killock of the Open Rights Group, who was representing consumer interests at the meeting, said afterwards that he was concerned about the direction the debate was going as it was clear that the regulators and government do not wish to intervene. However the industry is not putting forward anything that looks like meaningful self-regulation.

Now they are talking about a "two-tier" connection where some services are slower than others. Skype said that this state of affairs exists on Mobile services in the UK because carriers are violating the principle of net neutrality because they fear it will affect their call revenues.
Sir Tim said that every customer should be able to access every service, and every service should be able to access every customer. He said that the web has grown so fast precisely because we have had two independent markets, one for connectivity, and the other for content and applications.
As far as the government was concerned Vaizey said the meeting had been "useful and productive" and that "it was important to discuss how to ensure the internet remains an open, innovative and competitive place."
It does not look like we will see him putting his foot down soon.
As all would know, when it comes to greed-fear, only fear-greed [and nothing else] will console this beast. It will get what it wants sooner or later, greed-fear’s duty being to make others fearful-greedy. What this lunatic-cum-idiotic wants is money, money, money - to infinitise. As things stand, “ISPs” are making money heel over their head but they haven’t reached the stars yet. As insanity would have it, ISP/Greed-Fear ‘finks that what it has achieved is due to its “entrepreneurial talent” and not because of the Robbing Peter to Pay Paul concept. A two tier system money spinner is their avowed desire but their real desire is to get their lollipops by the minute. Like telephone billing. One could imagine the madness tinkering, plotting & planning how, through a gradual step-by-step mesmeric process, to achieve its goal.
Humanity is a collective organism and to grow properly, its root system has to support/balance its foliage system, the former being the culture of “The East” and the latter being the culture of “The West”. As things stand, The Age of The Root is being replaced by The Age of The Foliage and this unbalanced tree will fall after a series of ever larger almighty storms - and it will fall, guaranteed, it is only a matter of the timing which is dependent on the level of absoluteness/permanency vs the level of variability/transience with the former growing/strengthening by the day. As gigantic trees have shown, much growth is possible when balance is maintained. The contemporary growth model, which is based mostly on a runaway foliage being greedy for more, regardless, through a religion called “Democracy”, is slowly but surely tilting this tree towards the ground/its roots with Gravity, oka Innocence & Wisdom, being the catalyst. Sanity being Morality, all innately know that we are doing wrong but this religion of Democracy is so invasive and pervasive that the mesmerised have little means of countering its influence. Using The Voice of The Universe, collectivity per se, Collectivity [yes it is Unc Sammy not so much because of its people but because of its location otherwise the NA Indians would have been sacrificed for nothing], the religion of Democracy is being stuffed down the throats of the long-denied starry-eyed - liberating Abandonment in the name of Freedom with its “Freedom of Speech” being merely the means to stagnating issues.
Between a hole and a ball, right & wrong is merely the same position, one being the complement of the other and not its difference. This simplicity not only eludes but is the cause of the division between the two because complexity, oka rationality, was used instead of simplicity. It is like those dumb-cum-stupid no-choice-left brain lobe separation operations or some “Collider” complexity nonsense such that when reality is lacking, all you’ll ever get are ever larger imaginations. As such, greed-fear is due to its complexity, oka “wealth”/Insecurity, instead of its simplicity, greed and fear. And look how “ISPs” are justifying their greed which is merely their fear of being nobody. As if the looting/greed is insufficient for their fear/status quo. Should Divinity exists, who would challenge that such behaviours should not be at the helm of the ship Infinitise? Those who are stuffing as much loot as possible aboard their ship heading towards one hell of a storm. And don’t f’get the yo-ho-ho rum, K’ptain !! Bottoms up indeed.
