A Google blog alleged that journalists, US officials and military bods suffered a hack attack by unknown sources based in Jinan, China.
A post on the Google bog said that it had discovered that a campaign by hackers used malware and the phishing to entice people to share passwords.
The bog said that the attack affected hundreds of users including “senior US government officials, Chinese politcal activitists, officials in several Asian countries (predominantly South Korea), military personnel and journalists.
“The goal of this effort seems to have been to monitor the contents of these users’ emails, with the perpetrators apparently using stolen passwords to change peoples’ forwarding and delegation settings,” Google said.
But Google noticed and cut the bandits off at the gulch because it’s got strong cloud based security and abuse detection systems. It was able to disrupt the attack.
Its internal systems were unaffected by the attack this time round. Google didn’t say what the motive of the hackers was. The bog is here.
Update: China has denied that it is behind a wave of attacks against Google and said that the search engine outfit had "ulterior motives" in trying to blame the government in Beijing.
A spokesman for the Chinese foreign ministry said it was unacceptable to blame Beijing as it was also a victim.
"The so-called statement that the Chinese government supports hacking attacks is a total fabrication out of nothing. It has ulterior motives."

proof, and reading between the lines of all the AP and Reuters

what you know without hard facts and smoking gun emails and screen
grabs and i respect that, you can report the truth until
you have 100 percent hard proof and that;'s the best way to

by China last summer, the IP address was on my Gmail files...so i know
they came from China.....!!! they even erased all my work files,, 3 years work and changed my password...and added a vacation
note to all my email address friends....the hack came from CHINA, i

have recently been reporting news stories about some mysteriious group
that hacked into Lockheed's computers
in the U.S., without naming that culprit since Lockheed's lawyers
don't have the smoking gun yet. But the only
global player who want to hack into Lockheed's information files is
China. Why can't the Western media report
truth about this case, instead of tip-toeing around the Tiananmen
tulips? China did it, as everyone knows, and of course
China will deny it until it's dying breath. The West has already had
the experience of dealing with the lies
of Nazi Germany and the old USSR, but still remains afraid of telling
the truth about big, bad China. Why? It doesn't

When Nixon was found to be lying and covering up, he was hounded out of office. When China lies and covers up, people hum and ha and make nuanced judgements, if not outright excuses.
Is it because people stand in awe of grand historic civilisations that can just disregard normal values? Is it because they are blinded by the potential of the Chinese market? Is it because the Chinese are practised and cynical diplomats who can put a spin on anything? Or is it just because we stopped believing in absolutes and now choose to see only varying shades of evil?
But Chinese gov't is lying when they deny complicity in GMail hacks. Of that I have no doubt.
Greg, only the Bolshevik criminals, i.e., the Democrat party and their willing accomplices, the main sewer media, are sniffing Chinese arse. As to why, it is obvious even to the most casual observer. The Bolshevik criminals in US see themselves as rulers, members of the new aristocratic class, much like Chinese Communist Party officials.
