XoticPC laptop, MSI motherboard, Nvidia & AMD GPUs - EVGA

Tom's Hardware took a look at the XoticPC’s G73JW gaming laptop, a custom-build of the Asus G73JW. In its highest-performing version it features an Intel Core i7-940XM, an overclocked Nvidia GeForce GTX 460M and 16GB of Samsung DDR3-1333 RAM, double that of the original Asus model. At $3,600, however, it isn't cheap, and those who are a bit more tech-savvy can save a bundle by customising the basic Asus machine themselves.

HardwareHeaven reviewed the MSI P67A-GD65 motherboard. It was praised for its high performance, rating even higher than the ASRock Extreme4, one of the leading boards on the market. It offers lots of connectors and a handy instant overclocking button called OC Genie 2, which makes overclocking easy for those who don't want to, or don't know how to, manually overclock it.

The EVGA GeForce GTX 580 FTW Hydro Copper 2 graphics card was reviewed by HotHardware. It received brownie points for its low operating temperatures, extreme quietness, room for overclocking, singleslot form, support for PhysX and CUDA and its lifetime warranty. The requirement of liquid cooling, along with its heaviness and high cost were some big drawbacks, however.

PureOC tested the Asus Radeon 6950 and 6970 graphics cards, both of which were described as “capable gaming cards”. The Radeon 6950 was seen as the better of the two, since it doesn't have the temperature and power consumption problems of the Radeon 6970, but both were seen as slightly inferior to the Nvidia GTX 570, which has a price tag that falls between both AMD models, but offers much better performance. A lower price would make the Radeon cards better value.

TweakTown checked out the Galaxis Ares mid tower chassis, giving it a rating of 89 percent. The appearance is something users will either love or loathe, but it packs four fans, which should keep things relatively cool. This may come with the price of noise, however. Pricing has yet to be decided, but it is expected to aim at the lower end of the market.
