Seagate unveils BlackArmor NAS 400 server - Seagate

Seagate has today unveiled its new BlackArmor NAS 400 network storage server aimed at households and small businesses.

The NAS 400 is the latest addition to Seagate's BlackArmor line, which includes the NAS 100, NAS 220, NAS 420, and NAS 440. The NAS 400 is designed to give the same benefits as the NAS 420 and NAS 440 without pre-installed drives, designed, says Seagate, to give users complete control and flexibility over their server.

Optional drives can include ones from the Seagate Barracuda range, including low power or maximum performance models. It can operate from one to four drives, allowing users to scale up over time according to needs and available funds. It can support up to 8TB of data drives.

The NAS 400 includes backup and protection tools for up to 50 PCs connected to the network, user-configurable RAID 0/1/5/10 and JBOD capabilities, hot-swappable drives, Microsoft Active Directory 2003 or 2008 support, secure remote access, centralisation of data files, full system recovery, and event notification.

It comes with four USB ports and two Gigabit Ethernet ports. It also comes with a three-year warranty.

The NAS 400 is available through the Seagate website and CDW.com for $399.99 (£263.67).
