Samsung spends $15 million on MasterImage 3D investment -

Samsung has thrown $15 million at the 3D outfit MasterImage 3D.

MasterImage creates auto-stereoscopic 3D displays and in particular focuses on glasses free. According to the announcement, made at CTIA Wireless, Orlando, both Samsung and Masterimage have a vision of "3D on every screen". The two already had an existing relationship.

MasterImage has plenty of partners. It treats displays with Cell Parallax, its own tech which according to the company trumps rivals in stereoscopic 3D for plenty of reasons.

Glasses-free 3D works on handhelds because devices are always in your line of sight. With the announcement that it has received dosh from Samsung, here's what we can expect.

Talking to TechEye at Mobile World Congress, MasterImage said it had received calls from Hollywood. 3D, if it is a fad, is going to outlast all the other fads in the world because every company involved can make a lot of money from it at every level.

We're going to see a Samsung tablet that supports glasses free 3D.

It may pip Apple to the post but we reckon the film industry is already begging Jobs to churn one out through his platform. The iPad 2 is a stop-gap.

The Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 have been officially announced by Samsung, and they don't have 3D, but we can expect to see it sooner rather than later.
