Asus Launches new AMD 9 Motherboards -

Motherboard maker Asus has released a range of AM3+ based motherboards which it claims will give AMD users more features than they have ever had or wanted every before.

The AMD 9s support the 990FX/990X/970 chipsets and AM3+ CPUs. Asus claims that it is the first company to market fully compatible AM3+ motherboards.

Models include the M5A99/97 Series, the TUF Sabertooth 990FX and the ROG Crosshair V Formula.

The M5A99/97 Series has Dual Intelligent Processors (DIP) which is one of Asus's homebrew of a TurboV Processor Unit (TPU) and Energy Processor Unit (EPU).

Top of the range models ship with UEFI BIOS and the second generation of DIP that contains DIGI+ VRM (Digital power design), a first for AMD based boards.

The new motherboards will be the first on the AMD chipset based platform which can support both multi-GPU technologies AMD CrossFireX and Nvidia SLI.

The Asus M5A99/97 Series motherboards are compatible with AMD AM3+ socket CPUs but can work with the AM3 CPU. The M5A99/97 core series is equipped with DIP2, which features DIGI+ VRM technology. All this allows a user to tinker with power settings.

Because all this is digitally done, ASUS tells us that it can be tuned better for the AM3+ CPU specification's power demand. Digital control differs from analogue controls by eliminating digital-to-analog conversion lag, which helps to improve overclocking .

Also included on the M5A99/97 Series motherboards a better UEFI BIOS menu interface. UEFI BIOS allows a user to control and adjust their BIOS settings using a mouse for more user-friendly navigation. The built-in EZ Mode option also provides a drag-and-drop boot priority option, for better boot device management.

The newest addition to the TUF Series motherboards is the Sabertooth 990FX. This uses CeraM!X which is an aerospace-grade cooling material with a 50 per cent larger cooling area that effectively conducts heat away from vital system components.

Also onboard is Asus "Thermal Radar" technology which is basically ten sensors located on various vital components, giving users the ability to monitor each one individually. It makes using automatic fans easier because cooling can be directed where it is needed.
