AMD price slash, Maingear SandyBridge laptop, OCZ SSD - Maingear

AMD has announced the 1GB Radeon HD 6950, a lower end version of the similarly titled 2GB model, according to Tweaktown.  It has a price tag of $259, but that's not the only price AMD is focusing on, as it has also chopped the prices of the 2GB HD 6950 and HD 6850 from $289 to $269 and from $239 to $219 respectively. With only $10 between the 1GB and 2GB versions of the HD 6950 now, we wonder why anyone would buy the lower memory one at all.

The 2GB HD 6950 was one of four graphics cards that went head to head in a report by HardwareHeaven, with the other three being the XFX 6870 Black Edition (Dual Fan), Inno3D GTX 560 Ti OC and the Nvidia GeForce GTX 570. The XFX and Inno3D models won out, earning 10 out of 10 marks, while the Inno3D card won value and performance awards as well.

Maingear has launched its EX-L 15-inch laptop with a Sandy Bridge processor, according to HotHardware. Maingear claims it's the fastest laptop on the market, a claim that appears to be made by everyone these days, although the company is backing it up with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 485M mobile graphics card and an Intel second-generation mobile Sandy Bridge processor. It also features USB 3.0 ports, a two megapixel camera and a fingerprint reader.

PureOC reports on the OCZ Revo X2 240GB SSD, the successor to the original OCZ Revo. It plugs directly into the motherboard, further boosting speeds. For the really speed conscious a RAID 0 setup can deliver. The lack of support for TRIM in RAID setups was seen as a major drawback, not to mention the expensive price.
