Radeon HD 6970, GeForce GTX 480 and Radeon HD 5870 benchmarked -

A Chinese website zol.com.cn  has published the testing results of Radeon HD 6970, GeForce GTX 480 and Radeon HD 5870.

it is not clear how it managed this, but it used the benchmark tests 3DMark Vantage and Unigine Heaven.  Zol gets stuff early somehow and is a challenge for our Chrome translator.

The Radeon HD 6970 and Radeon HD 6950 is based around the GPU Cayman (PRO and XT) and were expected to be in the shops in November.

It is thought to have a 40-nm graphics core, which will have standard GDDR5 1 GB memory. Radeon HD 6970 will have a frequency of 1500 MHz (6000 MHz QDR), and Radeon HD 6950 – 1250 MHz (5000 MHz QDR).

AMD's Radeon HD 6970 series is expected to be the new leader among single GPUz and if the tests are accurate then the Radeon HD 6970 has been significantly improved in the applications using tessellation.

In Unigine Heaven, the successor of Radeon HD 5870 (Cypress) has shown 20 percent more performance.

However, the specifics of Benchmark 3DMark Vantage don't show such a difference in the computational abilities of Cayman and Cypress.

Word on the street is that the new GPU is superior to GeForce GTX 480 and Radeon HD 5870.
