Intel profits as Nvidia issues profit warning -

Graphics giant Nvidia said in a statement after the Street closed last night that things are not that rosy on the graphics front.

It had thought that for its second financial quarter, ending on the 1st of August next, it would turn in revenues between $950 million and $970 million.

But the actuality is that it will now turn in revenues of between $800 million and $820 million, a significant shortfall.

Nvidia said that the drop in its estimates was mostly due to its consumer graphics business, and blamed economic weakness in Europe and in China.

More expensive discrete graphics boards meant that people shifted to less expensive graphics boards or bought PCs with integrated graphics inside.

Integrated graphics is Intel's speciality, so it's an ill wind that blows no-one any good.
