There are rumours flying around that Sony has dumped Nvidia for AMD in its upcoming next generation console.
AMD already has its technology under the bonnet of Microsoft's Xbox 360. It, however, missed out on a contract win with the Playstation 3, which went to Nvidia.
Gamers will argue about anything you can think of, but it is generally agreed that the PS3 has sharper graphics. Still, Sony is said to be working on a next generation console, possibly with AMD processors.
AMD CFO Thomas Seifert, points out Forbes, said in an analyst call that gaming will bolster revenues for the Sunnyvale company.
Another console win would be big news for AMD. An AMD spokesperson said: "As you can imagine, we can't comment".
It has something to do with NV's GPU working along side Sony's Cell. Some games utilize the CELL for processing graphics while others use the NV GPU. A mix/match in other words.
Who is left? AMD. Overall, AMD will do an amazing job seeing how they are #1 in the GPU field.
On a side note: Sony is not happy with how NVIDIA deals with business and does not want deal with them no more.
