Chip underdog Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is readying a slew of Fusion based products in a bid to undermine Intel’s firm grip on the X86 market.
According to a report on Taiwanese wire Digitimes, the company will introduced six 32 nanometre Llano chips in the third quarter of this year. AMD describes these as APUs – basically graphics functions are integrated with microprocessor functions, so the chips emulate the human brain in a way, in that our eyes are pretty much integrated with the grey matter inside our skulls.
Llano microprocessors are fabricated by GlobalFoundries (GloFo), spun off by AMD to save money and funded by the government of Abu Dhabi.
According to Digitimes, AMD will roll out the chips at Taiwanese annual jamboree Computex. Six Llano chips will appear in desktops in the third quarter while AMD will roll out another five chips in the fourth quarter.
It will also release three Zacate semiconductors, says Digitimes, here. AMD is still looking for a CEO after it displaced Dirk Meyer earlier this year.
Intel is doomed for the next couple of years, since it does not have what is needed to do high end 3d-graphics, at the NVIDIA and AMD/ATI class level..
AMD new fusion APU processors are just the beginning of a new generation of processors. The next set is a series of APU's that contains a completely new design. That is, there is no CPU and GPU anymore, but a new design of APU's that contain a well designed/executed chip that performs all the functions of the CPU's and GPU's.
CPU's are dead and always had a huge design deficiency since they were not designed for high end 3d graphics. AMD is changing that issue and their next generation of APU's, 2012-2113, will be new
way of super-computing and computing.
Today, everything is becoming 3d-graphics, parallel processing, and vector processing, which Intel CPU's are handicap to do efficiently. AMD has designed, and released, the first generation of APU's that address all these issues and will then release native new deisgned APU's that will start a new historical era.
ARM, with NVIDIA help, though making progress in the low end, they are far away from what AMD is doing. Starting that Microsoft will release it's first ARM based Windows in 2013. By that time, the new generation of AMD APU's will have same or better power comsumption and a lot more power for processing x86 and other platforms/OS's.
Intel spends 20 to 30 times in misleading advertisings to try to blind people/invenstors of what is about to happen, but all the money and news manipulation they do now, will not stop what is coming to them.
AMD will not be limited or impacted by the recession since it will eat Intel for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the next couple of years..
Even more, since Intel can't threaten AMD customers anymore if they bought AMD products, AMD is in perfect position to become the new Intel of native APU's..

Even better news. But it seems to cast some doubt on your sources.
