Delightfully understated Microsoft CEO Steve “there's a kind of hush” Ballmer has shrugged off press reports that this morning he was smaller than Steve Jobs.
Wall Street tends to measure everything by how much value the share price is, while a normal CEO looks at how much money he is making. Ballmer said that size of market value was not everything and it depended how you used it.
"It is a long game. We have good competitors but we too are very good competitors," he said. "I will make more profit and certainly there is no technology company on the planet that is as profitable as we are," he said.
When it comes down to it 94 out of 100 people are picking a Windows PC. He also makes three times more money than Jobs.
Apple stock has risen steadily as chief executive Steve Jobs, who returned to Apple in 1997 after a stint away, piloted the release of hit products starting with the iPod in 2001.
A lot of his shares are being bought by Apple fanboys who would buy anything with an Apple logo on it and this has pushed the price up.
These are the same guys who would buy dog poo if Steve Jobs said that it was ice cream. Unfortunately for common sense they have managed to keep pushing the share price up and thus increased the value of the company a lot more than its ability to make cash.
The assumption is that Apple will continue to make record profits from now until doomsday, while Ballmer will fade away. We are not sure that you could ever make Ballmer fade away, he will always leave burn marks in the carpet.
The reason you don't see much anti-apple posts is because every time there is an anti-apple story six of your buddies wade in cut and pasting abuse of the person that wrote it.
You never question the facts you just spout the same lines of abuse. You are not clever, witty, or bright. You are not loved, you have no friends and the only way you can get attention is by slagging off people who are infinitely cleverer than you. Why dont you just do the gene pool a favor and castrate yourself or do humanity a favor by killing yourself.

Sounds alot like fanboy talk :O
But i must admit......your ipod really looks really cool, next your 1000 dollar apple laptop (Y)
Keep buying useles shit :)
But Apple is "bigger" in speculative stock assets -- sorta like circa-2000 Pets.com, or MotherNature.com, or Enron.
Yeah, that's something to brag about!
Microsoft is like BP!!!
BP pollutes the environment, Microsoft pollutes the Internet!!!
While no one would argue that stock valuations are perfect, they are an assessment of the combined millions of investors as to what a particular company is worth.
If, as Ballmer states, Microsoft is earning more money than Apple, yet Apple's stock valuation is higher, that is an indication that investors as a whole consider Apple's future to be rosier than Microsoft's. The reasons for that revolve around the fact that Apple is innovating and growing while Microsoft is not.
BTW, the juvenile "Ballmer makes 3 times as much as Apple" comment is just plain wrong. First, CEO salary is a silly comparison of company value - it simply indicates that Ballmer is overpaid. More importantly, it's wrong. Jobs' salary is $1.00 per year. Ballmer is making a lot more than 3 times as much.
Just another silly Nick Farrell content-free Apple-bashing story.
You can almost see the Apple fanboy's clustered around their computers saying "what will we say about an article one..."
"I know we will call him 13 and demand he is fired..... good one" It does not happen of course because Apple fanboys are very very lonely.
where is this so called fact, which is really a claim, coking from?
Is Intel's P/E ratio outrageous ?
If the article is going to claim that Apple's share price is out of whack with actual profits, it might make sense to provide relevant data on that front.
The really amusing bit is that on things like iPod / iPhone / iPad - a substantial if not large majority of Apple's revenue&profits are coming from Windows PC users.
It's hard to support the notion that only hardcore Apple fans are propping up the company's fortunes, with this fact in mind.
Mac sales have been growing steadily since 2001, but the iDevices provided a way for Apple to make money from customers still on Windows. win-win...
That's why Apple selling computers to under 10% of the world can surpass Microsoft in stock value...there's more to their portfolio than 2 products! It's not enough anymore these days just to put the Microsoft logo on the side of something and expect people to buy it.
If anything, Google is still the greatest threat to Microsoft and the one that will ultimately surpass both of these...just not Apple as quickly. The Farrell guy is a buffoon!

To state that a lot of "his" shares are being bought by Apple fanboys is disproven with a quick look at MSN's financial web pages.
http://moneycentral.msn.com/ownership?Holding=Institutional+Ownership&Symbol=AAPL
71% institutionally owned.
Change the symbol to MSFT and note that Microsoft has less institutional ownership. And read into that what you will.
a classic shaggy:)
Well then. They are both quite large.
Whom shall I call to form
my coalition government?
BTW, I do have a $1000 MacBook Pro and an iPad and I drool over them both daily. Yeah!
A holy war is upon us and those who offer themselves in martyrdom will receive 72 pieces of the blessed Apple gear.
