Dell sues LCD makers -

Dell has sued five LCD makers, moaning that they fixed prices for products.

The suit in the US District Court for the Northern District of California is against Epson, Hitachi, Sharp, Toshiba and HannStar.

A Dell rep said that the outfit wants to recover money collected for LCD panels that were purchased at artificially inflated prices.

Dell hasn't specified how many zeroes should be on the cheque written by the companies involved. The computer maker is seeking a jury trial.

Several LCD vendors have already pleaded guilty to price-fixing in an investigation by the US Department of Justice and have been fined $860 million.

It was expected that private suits from manufacturers like Dell would follow the DoJ's investigation.

In December Nokia sued a group of display makers for alleged price fixing.

The short answer to everything is that the companies will probably be forced to settle out of court as a jury would be likely to award Dell huge amounts of cash.
