Berners-Lee lashes out at US/UK hacking -

The inventor of the world wide web has taken a stance on the revelations that the NSA and GCHQ were widely engaged in cracking encryption.

Tim Berners-Lee told the Guardian newspaper that the cracking was “appalling and foolish”.

Berners-Lee claimed that there was a failure to oversee the actions of both GCHQ and the National Security Agency.

And he said that whistleblowers, such as Edward Snowden, are important to society.

Media coverage of leaks made by Snowden was in the public interest, he told the Guardian.
